Word from the Mayor

Sergio Pavone
Mayor of Châteauguay

 Châteauguay,  …my true nature

On behalf of the Châteauguay municipal council, I would like to express my pride in been, for a third consecutive year, a stage of the Montreal women’s cycling world cup – Tour du Grand Montreal.

The slogan “Châteauguay …my true nature” represents the municipality’s interest in offering various outdoor activities for which the city would have to acquire modern and sophisticated facilities. Châteauguay has adopted a bicycle path network plan, most of which has either been completed or is in progress.

This stopover will help to promote the main natural and cultural attractions in our municipality. Being associated with a cycling event of this magnitude is a promotional tool for our city that can only increase the number of tourists in our region.

We would like to thank the organizers of the Montreal women’s cycling world cup – Tour du Grand Montreal and encourage them to continue serving the cause of cycling and the development of tourism that comes with it.

Richard Goulet
Mayor of Granby

Granby will greet world elite of feminine cycling

of the 2009 Tour of Greater Montreal.

In this year of the 150th anniversary of the city of Granby, we are honored to host the world-class event of female cycling as part of the 2009 edition of the Tour of Greater Montreal.

The event organizational structure put in place during the last two presentations of the race is ensuring the success of the race this year, with the high caliber of athletes who will be competing on June 2. Thanks to the commitment and dedication of our local and regional volunteers, with the support of our municipality and its residents.

To ensure the success of the Feminine world cup event, we can count on efforts and involvement of precious partners at many levels: athletes who are an inspiration of drive and determination, the dedicated fans who will attend the events, members of the Tour of Greater Montréal organizing committee for their hard work and dedication, as well as all partners and sponsors who have made this event possible. Finally, very special thanks to all volunteers who will bring energy and enthusiasm in the planning of this Tour, contributing to its success.

It’s an invitation to get into motion by joining in the World Feminine Cycling in Granby!

Gérald Tremblay
Mayor of Montréal

Logo ville de Montréal

It is an honour to again welcome competitors and spectators to the prestigious Montreal Women's World Cup of Cycling. Once more, we will be amazed by the performances of the world’s best women cyclists when they compete against each other on the Mont Royal circuit, the seventh and most demanding of the 10 stops on the tour. What makes this an even greater honour is that Montréal is the only city in North America to enjoy the tremendous visibility offered by this competition, strengthening even further our solid reputation in the international cycling world.

To top it off, while enjoying this competition, we will also have a chance to see the great athletes of the Tour du Grand Montréal, considered the continent’s biggest road cycling event.

These two international events demonstrate why Montréal deserves its reputation as a major sports city. We extend a warm welcome to the athletes and to the thousands of spectators from here and around the world who will be cheering them on.

Michel Gilbert
Mayor of
Mont-Saint-Hilaire

Again in 2009, Mont-Saint-Hilaire is pleased to join the host cities of the Tour du Grand Montréal. In fact, the region will present the final event scheduled for June 4th.

It has often been said (and written) that, among the many human activities, sport is the one that best succeeds in fostering cooperation. The final event of the Tour du Grand Montréal, better known as the Circuit des vergers, attracts cyclists not only because it is physically challenging, but also because it achieves a sense of unity between the beautiful scenery, the spectators and the competitors.

We extend the warmest welcome to the members of the organizing committee, the athletes and their guests and we invite all residents, fans and future participants of all ages to come and cheer the racers all along the Circuit des vergers, and to enjoy our regional attractions: a beautiful mountain, selected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the first one in Canada, the picturesque Richelieu River, a rich heritage, a dynamic artistic community and a thriving apple-growing industry.

We appreciate the trust that the Tour organizers have given to Mont-Saint-Hilaire and we look forward to working with the many volunteers whose enthusiastic efforts will guarantee the success of this event.
